The Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies is a recognised independent Centre of Oxford University, which is globally renowned
for its standards of academic excellence and achievement. Each term we offer a range of online courses that explore various facets of Indian religion. For the upcoming term, starting in October, we will be offering a course in the 'Philosophy of Yoga', which will provide a detailed study of the background to Yoga practice, including discussion of texts such as the Upanishads, Bhagavad-gita and Yoga Sutras as well as the Tantric traditions and the main works on Hatha Yoga. The course is detailed, thorough and exhaustive and provides a complete overview of the subject area in line with the academic standards of Oxford University. Birthlight Pregnancy Yoga, Mother & Baby Yoga
Classes are taught by Sara Barker (Osteopath, Cranial Osteopath, Acupuncturist
and Yoga Teacher) with over 20 years of experience in family health and yoga.
Sara teaches using the internationally acclaimed Birthlight method. Our classes help you enjoy the various stages of your pregnancy and prepare you for childbirth. Once your baby is in your arms our Mother and Baby Yoga and Baby Massage classes help you and your baby make the most of these precious early months. As time goes on Family Yoga provides a fun and interactive way to enjoy yoga with your little-ones.
Hazel teaches Hatha Yoga in Oxford and surrounding area. Classes are Suitable for all levels - Beginners welcome. The
classes include Asanas (postures), working with mindfulness and the breath, and always close with a meditation.
All the classes are mixed ability but do vary in style. Begin your week in Appleton at 6.30pm Monday evening or start the weekend early in Summertown at 10am Friday. The gentle class ideal for beginners is Tuesday 9.30am in Cumnor Old School and the strongest moving into poweryoga style is Tuesday evening at 7.30pm in Old Headington Parish Hall. Training in IYM, you will work with your mind as much as your body, showing you how to unlock your flexibility and
how to work with your stiffest muscle, the one between your ears. We will teach you about 1st and 2nd brain intelligence and how to listen and communicate using both – in standalone mindfulness practices and IYM sequences. This approach develops a toolkit for you and your future students to self-reference in all actions and activities.
Hugh Poulton and Sarah Haden are developers of IYM. Their outside the box approach is a product of Hugh’s 30+ years of yoga + mindfulness experience and Sarah’s contemporary perspective.
Beth has been practicing yoga since 1990 and qualififed as a British Wheel of Yoga Teacher 14 years ago. Her popular
classes have been running locally for over 13 years and she still has many of her original attendees. Classes focus upon building core strength, improving flexibility, balance and tone. The classes are suitable for all levels. Newcomers are very welcome.
