Yoga Style: working with your body, not against it Send Message
The Body Learning Integration System, or BLIS, approach to yoga traditionally focuses on uncovering and embodying one's innate state, balance: balance being the place where no effort is required. Dropping into this place is like dropping from the wave part of you, down into the ocean of you, and although this is simple and the most natural thing in the world, interrupting the habits which keep us in our habituated and enculturated flight-or-flight defensive physiological postures, typically takes gentle, persistent practice and patience. Essentially this is learning to move from the heart instead of from the head... one hundred and eighty degrees apart . So many of the tools we practice are not what you might typically encounter in a yoga class or training. Tools include Hatha, Nada, Laya, Jana, and Bhakti yogas... but the nature of the practice is essentially the same: becomming centered, engaging your curiosity, and then simply listening. Todd teaches from his studio in SW Portland, Oregon (Sacred Onion - www.sacredonion.org), with his wife Vittoria, around town, and has taught the BLIS Yoga approach in workshops and retreats in Hawaii, Alaska, California, as well as Oregon.
