Ancient discipline of Yoga has come to us through the traditions which were developed during the periods of history. Old traditions of Yoga are fast disappearing and it is difficult for many to keep in touch with the old traditions and their living teachers. Thus modern teachers of Yoga are deprived of the knowledge of Yoga traditions. Another source of getting acquainted with Yogic traditions is through the traditional texts. Many of these are still in manuscript form and are deposited in the Oriental Libraries. There is a need of reviving traditional knowledge about Yoga through the study of traditional texts in modern perspective. This need was long felt by Dr. M. L. Gharote, the Founder-Director of The Lonavla Yoga Institute (India), who took initiative in bringing out such ancient works for the benefits of the serious students of yoga and has started Traditional Yoga Revival Movement by bringing authentic traditional Yoga literature to the doors of Yoga community. Inspired by the vision of his mentor and pioneer in the field of fundamental research, Swami Kuvalayananda-ji, for research, especially in the field of Philosophico-literary research in Yoga and considering the valuable work left unfinished by him, The Lonavla Yoga Institute (India) decided to first devote itself to the work of critical editions of ancient Yoga texts which are still unpublished. Under the auspices of Dr. M. L. Gharote, in the short span of last one decade of its existence, the Institute has worked on a large number of such texts and published them. The Institute disseminates knowledge of Traditional Yoga in theory and practice through the organization of the seminars and conferences in India and in other countries.
