Here at the Yoga with Jimmy Barkan, we teach a style of Hatha Yoga originated from a lineage in Calcutta, India. In each class we practice a sequence of postures (asanas) to stretch and strengthen every area of the body necessary to create balance and restore all systems to optimal health. The definition of yoga is physical, mental and spiritual harmony and balance. Jimmy Barkan began practicing yoga in 1979 and was certified to teach yoga in 1981 through Ghosh's College of Physical Education in Calcutta, India. Jimmy also practices and studies the teachings of his guru, Paramahansa Yogananda, and was initiated in the ancient meditation technique called Kriya Yoga in 1983. Jimmy opened his school in Fort Lauderdale in 1983 and The Yiga Connection in Plantation, Florida in 2002. Barkan has been inspiring students for over twenty years; many have opened their own schools throughout the world. Jimmy's unique style of teaching encourages students of all levels to reach their full potential. Jimmy is known for training many professional athletes; members of the NFL, NBA, NHL, P.G.A. tour, and the 1997 World Series champions Florida Marlins. Jimmy does workshops and conferences nation and worldwide and is proud to offer both Level I and Level II teacher training programs in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
