Siddha yoga is primarily a spontaneous process which begins at the time of receiving a mantra. At this time, the process of kundalini awakening begins in an individual. Initially, asanas (postures) and mudras (energy seals) occur of their own accord, various breathing patterns manifest, and the ladder of yoga is gradually ascended (sense withdrawl, concentration, meditation, etc. all happening spontaneously.) There are innumerable benefits that are accrued even in the very early stages of this practice. These vary from improved health, including the elimination of various disease, to mental peace. And of course, regarding spiritual development, it has been said that without kundalini, there is no yoga.
