Meditation underlies the practice of Viniyoga. We quiet the body/mind, moving away from restlessness and distraction so we can see more clearly and thus improve the quality of our actions. Yoga does not teach a creed, but proposes means of knowing and changing oneself. Breathing is central to Viniyoga. It is synchronized with the yoga positions and practiced separately as rhythmic breathing exercises to calm and strengthen the nervous system. The breath provides the link between the body and the mind. The emphasis in my teaching is threefold: deepening self awareness, which includes relaxed, controlled breathing, meditation, and dealing with stress; increasing and balancing muscular strength and flexibility; building stamina.
