In this class, we focus on safe stretching toward finding our “edge”; identifying core muscles and activating them for strength; practicing balance poses; and effective and purposeful breathing. Each of us works toward moving into and creating his or her own version of yoga poses and vinyasas. This is an accessible multi-level class, with use of modifications, props and chairs as needed, with students from 25-85.
We start class by relaxing in a resting or restorative pose, while listening to a synopsis of the weekly Torah or, for 5771, the Haftarah, portion. Andrea then links the theme to concepts and philosophy of yoga, which we use to guide the evening’s practice. As we proceed, we find new ways to express and investigate the relationship between body and spirit. Music and poetry are sometimes used to complement the final resting pose.
