Fort Wayne's Ashtanga Yoga Shala is founded in order to spread the awareness of traditional yoga by establishing an Ashtanga community. We are here to motivate and inspire each other to help ourselves and others grow spiritually and mindfully. This is the first time the traditional teaching of Ashtanga Yoga has been brought to Fort Wayne and is one of the few Ashtanga Yoga centers in the Midwest.
Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga is known for its sequences of postures and its threefold approach–Tristana (ujjayi pranayama, bandha, drishti) all strung together with vinyasa (practice of breath synchronized movement). Primary series (Yoga Chikitsa) is the first of the series and is what is practice at Fort Wayne’s Yoga Shala. The sequence of asanas is set out in a strategic way where poses are followed by counter-poses in order to truly reap the health benefits and prevent injuries. Through a consistent practice with devotion, Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga practitioners will develop strength, endurance, steadiness and flexibility of the mind and body.
