A hatha yoga class involves a series of postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama) and relaxation/stress reduction (prayer/meditation). The stretching and relaxation techniques performed in yoga helps to improve circulation bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the cells of the body. Other benefits of a regular yoga practice include increasing flexibility, increased muscle tone and strength, improved balance, coordination and posture and fewer daily aches and pains. Studies have shown that regularly practicing yoga can also help relieve sinusitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, anxiety, depression, asthma, insomnia, sciatica as well as a host of other health conditions. Yoga is a perfect practice for office/desk workers who often suffer form head, neck, shoulder and low back pain. Since hatha yoga is a slow and gentle exercise, it is well suited for people who suffer from arthritis, fibromyalgia and other chronic health conditions. Yoga can always be modified to each individual and can be practiced on the floor, chair, wall or even in bed. This is why anybody and everybody can do practice yoga.
