Jules Mitchell, a yoga therapist and Master’s of Science Candidate in Exercise Science at CSU Long Beach, blends the
science of biomechanics with the tradition of yoga to help people move better. Her skill-based approach to movement increases strength and range of motion through deliberate and progressive exercises. Jules extensively researched the science of stretching for her Master’s Thesis Project which she is currently editing for publication. In the meantime, she educates the public about stretching through her blog. She applies her research when working with clients, primarily teaching private lessons. At HIP Studio, yoga isn’t just another workout. Each class with our yogis incorporate postures that will deepen your practice, so you can get more out of any yoga class. You’ll focus on deep breathing, yoga flow, relaxation postures, meditation, deep stretching and even some foam rolling.
In addition to stretching and strengthening with challenging postures and flow from each, you can also reduce your stress levels with each session. Various studies in the past few years have found that practicing yoga helps release an acid called GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid) in the brain. GABA reduces stress levels and helps the body prepare for better sleep. Low levels of GABA have been linked to depression and anxiety.
YOGA FLOW Covering a wide range of poses with smooth transitions, this class is perfect for beginning and advanced yogis. Movement builds intensity though out the class with a relaxing cool down at the end. The poses flow from one to the next like a dance and change from class to class so you’ll never get bored. It’s a unique mind/body connection to counteract strain and stress.
POWER YOGA Put some power behind your practice! It’s an intense flow using weights for resistance, gaining strength in each pose. Energized with up beat music, this yoga adds some kick by incorporating squats, lunges, and upper body sculpting for a total body workout. Sweating, toning, and building lean muscle with the flow of yoga.
