Ahimsa Vinyasa Yoga currently being taught at Island Yoga in Alameda.
Cristin developed 'ahimsa yoga' because she
believes so deeply in the fusion of yoga and compassion which she incorporates at every level of her practice and teachings. She wants to be part of global change by helping others develop their coping skills so that we, as a community, operate from a place of compassion, kindness, and peace. The capacity to engage with, and embrace, the world with love starts from within. Cristin hopes to help develop that capacity in each person whose mat she is blessed to come in contact with.
All-Levels Ahimsa Vinyasa Yoga is a vinyasa flow yoga steeped in compassion and kindness while encouraging individuals to safely challenge themselves within their comfort zone. Classes are set to music and a warm environment while modifications are taught for each asana. Beginners through advanced yogis all benefit while practicing side by side, inspiring and sharing the energy and wisdom of each other.

Mother/Daughter Yoga: Reclaiming and Celebrating the Sacred Feminine
Join Johanna and her 11-year old daughter Emelie
for this four class series for mothers* and their daughters, ages 9 and up, who are curious about yoga and/or wish to deepen their practice together from a feminine perspective. The classes are both playful and mindful and each class is presented within a theme. We will explore different aspects of yoga such as different asanas (postures), partner-poses, restorative yoga, sun-salutations, female health issues and the blossoming body, meditation, pranayama (breathing) and chanting. This smorgasbord of practices nurtures and promotes an overall sense of well-being and inner peace, body awareness, strength, flexibility, self-esteem, and stress reduction. Most importantly, the special time we spend together seeks to deepen and honor the sacred in the precious relationship between mother and daughter creating a legacy of physical and emotional health. *(Grandmothers, Aunties, Mother-In-Laws or Mother Friend is also welcome!)

Employing somatic principles during the exploration of yoga asana, Somatic Yoga cultivates a deeper sense of body awareness,
allowing us greater ease in movement, and comfort in being in our bodies. Sharpen your reflexes, get in touch with your inner infant, introduce your head and tail, and awaken your senses as we look at traditional yoga poses. Through meditation, imagery, breath and an open sense of curiosity, we will excavate our bodies from the inside out; relying on developmental patterns inherent in our own body/mind make-up to guide us to a greater understanding of our relationship to yoga. This class is both a launching point for novice students and a deeper exploration for advanced students.

My yoga sessions have an Iyengar base, incorporating yin (gentle) as well as more yang (dynamic) styles into a practice designed to strengthen as well as lengthen and stretch the body. Music and breathwork are often brought in to encourage movement and physical opening within the poses. Students experience their bodies more fully and relax, calm, and center their minds. Gretchen Wobrock was certified as a yoga teacher through Kriplau and a yoga therapist through Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy.
She teaches 3-4 classes a week, utilizing the principles of hatha yoga to find the authentic impulse and movement in the body. Her classes focus deeply on the relationship between breath, body and spirit and include both active and restorative poses.
Her private yoga and therapy sessions take this work to another level, allowing the client to look closely at the mind/body experience and the potential for healing and transformation.
Wonderful classes in the heart of north Berkeley. I've been teaching yoga and meditation since 1989 and began studying
them at the age of 14.
In 1991, I received my Teacher Training certificate from The Yoga Room in Berkeley and was certified as a Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist. Throughout 2002, I wrote the Beginners Column in Yoga Journal, and prior to that I published feature articles on the chakras and "Yoga for Good Digestion." I've also appeared in three Yoga Journal calendars.
I offer privates, building a home practice, special workshops, and Somatic Therapy. I love teaching students of all levels.
