Classes and private sessions offer students the experience of asana (postures) and pranayama (breathing practices),
relaxation and meditation as a way to deepen their experience of the body, mind and spirit through the Kripalu tradition -- a lineage of compassion and connection. Building strength, developing flexibility, cultivating self awareness and inner wisdom through the union of body, breath, intention and awareness. Classes, small groups and privates open to students of all abilities, including those with no previous experience.
In Kundalini Yoga we use exercise, stretches, breathing, meditation, mantras, and mudras to activate the Kundalini,
the energy of your awareness. I usually teach weekly classes on different themes like prenatal yoga, heart-opening, creativity, prosperity, chakra exploration and more. I have been on a hiatus from these on-going classes for able bodied people but am currently in conversation to find a new venue to start classes again. Check my web-site for updates, please, or call me. I also occasionally teach a fun workshop called the Chakra Dancing Playshop. Private lessons for individual students or small groups are available as well. I teach in Tallahassee. I also teach workshops at New Leaf Market co-op. I currently teach seated yoga to the elderly on Fridays at 11am at the Senior Center, and Seated Yoga for the Alzheimer's Project at various locations around Tallahassee.
Ellen Shapiro and Gretchen Hein are co-owners of Namaste Yoga, in Tallahassee, FL. Both teach several classes each
week, and also offer retreats and special classes. Ellen is certified as a yoga therapist, and is also a psychologist in private practice who incorporates the principles of yoga into her work with clients. We have diverse and talented teachers.
The class practices an Iyengar inspired Hatha yoga that emphasizes proper body alignment and mental focus. Executing
the different asanas, will increase flexibility, strengthen muscles, and improve concentration. My experience with Iyengar Yoga and certification in Discovery (www.discoveryyoga.com) and Kripalu Yoga has given me a unique teaching style. My hands-on teaching incorporates the use props (belts, blocks, chairs, etc.) that allows you to work within a range of motion that is safe for your body type. As the body moves into alignment, less work is required and the poses come naturally. Drop-in classes (for adults of all ages) are taught Monday and Wednesday (5:30-7:00) at the Tallahassee Senior Center (850-891-4000).
