Speaking personally, being someone with multiple disabilities (multiple sclerosis [MS] and osteoarthritis), I came into yoga to help ease chronic pain.
From my 1st yoga class to now, the benefits of yoga has extended way beyond managing chronic pain. By practicing yoga, I have been able to grow emotionally, spiritually, physically, mentally, and energetically. The more I practice yoga, the more I become attune with myself, with others, and in the world I live in.
The style of yoga I teach is from the hatha yoga tradition. Slow, therapeutic, meditative, flowing movements, utilizing the breath to guide the movement to holding in a pose (asana) for a few breaths to allow for deeper awareness and intention to set in. Breathing techniques (pranayama) and meditation are done as well, whether in a private session or group class/sessions. You have the support of like-minded community members. You are able to share and learn from one another.
Props are provided to help you feel the essence and expression of each pose. You do not fit to the pose; the pose fits to you.
