1) Vinyasa (flow)/Asana (postures) classes: Poses are connected with each other and are coordinated with the breath to increase strength, endurance, balance, and inner calm. Lisa creates classes for individuals or groups, appropriate for any level from beginners to advanced practitioners.
2) Pranayama (breathwork): Simple asana (poses) practice begins the class to prepare the body for awareness and breathwork. Props support the practitioner's posture to explore the breath to meet the student's individual needs. Breathwork is used to reduce symptoms (asthma, allergies); to support vocations and avocations (musicians, singers, theatre actors); and to syncronize mind, breath and body (bring awareness, inner calm, or energy as needed). Lisa creates classes for individuals and groups.
About Lisa Riolo: Lisa Riolo has practiced vinyasa yoga for over 25 years and is registered as an advanced yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance. She is certified to teach through Cyndi Lee’s OM yoga teacher training program based in NYC to teach vinyasa, pranayama, and meditation. She has had additional teacher training with a dozen internationally known yoga teachers. Teaching yoga compliments Lisa’s full-time career as a physical therapist educator and scientist. From her own yoga practice, Lisa brings to her students the union of breath and movement to focus the mind and bring awareness to the alignment, balance, and strength for each asana. In addition to the physical benefits of yoga, Lisa aims to teach students to appreciate the non-physical benefits of practice by returning to lessons learned on the mat to their daily lives off the mat.

I find yoga to be a spiritual path much more than a form of exercise. In addition to practicing yoga in Okinawa I studied meditation. That helped me to shift my concentration on and off the mat. My classes stress mindful asanas with proper alignment, breathing, meditation and relaxation techniques. I am also a retired 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a graduate of IUPUI. In my spare time, I like to hike, bicycle, and spend time with my 4 grandchildren.

Fort Wayne's Ashtanga Yoga Shala is founded in order to spread the awareness of traditional yoga by establishing an Ashtanga community. This is the first time the traditional teaching of Ashtanga Yoga has been brought to Fort Wayne and is one of the few Ashtanga Yoga centers in the Midwest.
Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga is known for its sequences of postures and its threefold approach–Tristana (ujjayi pranayama, bandha, drishti) all strung together with vinyasa (practice of breath synchronized movement). Primary series (Yoga Chikitsa) is the first of the series and is what is practice at Fort Wayne’s Yoga Shala. The sequence of asanas is set out in a strategic way where poses are followed by counter-poses in order to truly reap the health benefits and prevent injuries. Through a consistent practice with devotion, Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga practitioners will develop strength, endurance, steadiness and flexibility of the mind and body.

A certified teacher (200 hour ERYT), I teach walk-in or sign-up yoga classes, from hatha-style to yin yoga. Classes are Tuesday night at 8:00, Wednesday evening at 5:30, and Saturday morning at 8:30. All classes last for 75 minutes.
