The Atmananda Yoga Sequence is the body of knowledge, experienced through Hatha Yoga, Iyengar Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga, combined to create a Vinyasa flow. The sequence is composed of the six groups of asanas, including standing poses, balancing poses, spinal twists, inversions, back bends and forward bends, all working to leave the body completely open and refreshed. We use the breath and attention to detail as the foundation of the flow to develop a healthy yoga practice that can last for a lifetime. We believe that through learning proper alignment our bodies will begin to safely open and through practicing a consistent sequence, rather than looking around to see the next pose we will begin to move internally quieting our minds.

Seventy One classical and powerful postures make up the sequence and help you connect with your body. We use the Sun Salutations to warm up, various hip-openers to lubricate the joints and release tension, forward bends to calm the mind and fire the digestion, backbends to energize and open up the heart , arm balances to tone the body and inversions to reverse the impact of gravity. The movement initiates with the breath to bring awareness and connect to the vital energy of the body, Prana.

The most important element of the Atmananda Yoga Sequence is physical alignment. The appropriate placing of the feet and hands and engaging the right muscles play a crucial role in protecting the joints and gently guiding the body deeper into the poses.

Jennifer Pettit's exploration of yoga began in 1992, during which time she practiced a range of traditions before finding her home in Hatha Yoga.

She completed an Anusara Teacher Training in 2003, specializing in pre-natal and postpartum yoga. She continued her studies in this area of women's issues, earning certifications both through Baby Om and The Barnes Method -Yoga for Two (Pre-natal and Mommy & Baby). She has studied the pelvic floor with Kelly Kane (pilates based), Jacki Nett and Leslie Howard (Iyengard yoga based)

Her teaching is steeped in the personal experiences of her own pregnancy and postpartum, and is enriched with her continual self-study and work with her students and their experiences. She teaches out of desire to serve other women experiencing the incredible journey into motherhood, and to share with them life-affirming techniques yoga offers for opening, for the body, and for life.

While specializing in prenatal and postpartum, her interest in therapeutics has led her to work with specific issues of the pelvic floor as well as general sports injuries and repetitive stress injuries with both women and men.

Jennifer has been teaching prenatal and baby and me yoga since 2002 with Baby Om, Mary Barnes, Yoga for Two (the Barnes Method) and at Virayoga in New York City. Jennifer's teaching has been deeply influenced and graciously guided by Professor Douglas Brooks. She is currently registered witht eh Yoga Alliance as and Experienced 500 hour registered yoga teacher as well as a registered prenatal yoga teacher. She teaches and lives in New York City with her husband and two sons.
