Unity Woods is one of the largest and most highly respected yoga centers in the country. We offer classes for students
of all levels in asana (posture) and pranayama (breathing), special workshops with some of the world's finest teachers, weekend intensives, and programs covering various aspects of the science and art of Yoga. All our classes follow the Iyengar method of yoga, based on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar, the foremost living yoga teacher in the world. His rigorous approach emphasizes a balance between strength and flexibility, builds endurance, and develops Self-awareness through precision in movement and attention to subtleties of body, breath, mind, and spirit.
We offer the best Prenatal Yoga, Prenatal Partner yoga in terms of pregnancy and yoga. We include breathing -essential
for labor and delivery- and tools in how to cope with pain and fear. We also offer quite challenging vinyasa yoga as well as Yogalates (a combination of yoga and Pilates) and a wonderful Pilates on the large Swiss ball and Pilates on the mat. Visit us at: www.yogavita.org
Jagat Jyoti Singh (Thubten Chökyu) has been practicing yoga for over 20 years. He came to yoga because of a neck
problem and stayed because yoga gives him the excuse to be barefoot every day. Through the years he has studied a number of styles including Desikachar, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Kripalu, and Kundalini Yoga. He now focuses almost exclusively on Kripalu and Kundalini Yoga. He received his teacher certifications through Spirit Rising Yoga in Chicago and the Kripalu Center in Lenox, Mass.
Jagat Jyoti has an empathic style of teaching: gently, but firmly encouraging his students to challenge and expand themselves. His style is also informed by his study of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy and practices. In his classes he stresses the importance of being in the moment and opening to the higher self through body and energy awareness. The ultimate goal for each class is to achieve a deeply meditative connection with the Self.
His current schedule is:
Jagat Jyoti is back from India. Not fully established in the D.C. Yoga world, yet, but give me a call if I can be of service.
