	The Professional Yoga Instructor Preparation for Certification program is a comprehensive program through the Anne Arundel Community College for students who wish to deepen their practice and further their understanding of Yoga. Students can earn their 200 and/or 500-hour accreditation with Yoga Alliance. This in-depth study into the art and science of Yoga provides participants with a rich and vast body of knowledge in philosophy, teaching methodology, anatomy and physiology, subtle energy systems and more. Guest teachers throughout the year enrich the students' experience. Gain insight into the heart of the Yoga teachings by studying such classical texts as the Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita and the Mahabharata. Listen to the stories and learn the symbolism associated with the deities after whom many poses are named. Study Ayurveda, the 'science of life' and learn the importance of creating a healthier lifestyle based on your constitution. Analyze standing poses, backbends, forward bends, inversions, twists, and restoratives. Learn the mechanics of teaching, the art of skillful sequencing, hands-on adjusting, use of props and variations or modifications for special populations. Explore anatomy from both the Eastern energetic and the Western anatomical perspectives. Emphasis is on practicing and teaching the asanas safely using bio-mechanical principles of alignment to enhance the flow of prana and sense of well-being. The Immersion into the Yoga Tradition is designed to be flexible. It is intended for all students, not just students who wish to teach. A Certificate from the college is awarded upon successful completion of the course. Graduates will also receive a certificate from Yoga 4 Life which they can use to apply to Yoga Alliance for RYT200 or RYT500 national accreditation.
