In this workshop we will locate, assess, soften, stretch, strengthen & exercise the various muscle groups of the pelvic floor, discuss mula bandha, abdominal health and how to utilize the pelvic floor in asana.
The weekend will begin with anatomy, lecture, and discussion followed by subtle experiential movements to awaken your understanding of this often-ignored area. A series of specific exercises & asana for the pelvic floor will follow. Bring your friends, sisters, mothers, and daughters.
The following 4 days will be an in-depth look at all aspects of female pelvic health including cultural, medical and historical contexts of the female pelvis and how they translate to our current understanding and care of the pelvis, sexuality, misconceptions & modern medical care. Learn experiential antomy, how posture affects the pelvic floor, identifying the difference between hypertonic muslces, the difference between strong & tense muscles, and the role of breath & emotion in the pelvic floor. Explore how to hold a safe environment for women, what to do with the pelvic floor during all stages of pre-and post-natal, as well as restorative yoga for the pelvic floor. A manual & homework practicum will be offered for completion after the training for students to better facilitate learning and understanding of the subject.
Although helpful, no yoga experience is required. This workshop qualifies for continuing education credits with the Yoga Alliance. To qualify for Leslie's certification" the practicum must be completed. You must have previously attended one of Leslie's pelvic floor workshops or Saturday's presentation in order to attend the training.
Cost: $385 for the 4-day training ($350 with early registration); $75 for Saturday only ($65 with early registration; $400 for all 5 days.
Leslie Howard has over 2500 hours of yoga study and has practiced for over 15 years in New York and the Bay Area, including 14 years of teaching classes, workshops & annual yoga retreats.
