|20 hour certification will provide currently certified yoga teachers (RYT 200 or above) as well as health practioners or individuals involved in senior fitness activities, with a strong understanding of Chair yoga - theory and practice. Participants will gain the skills required to bring yoga to students who might otherwise not be able to embrace a practice. (For those that are eligible (RYT teachers) the 20 hours qualify for your continuing education credits.) Students who attend the workshop and proceed to teach an appropriate chair yoga class to peers from the class at the end of the course will be awarded a certificate establishing their certification to teach chair yoga.
In addition, during the 3 day (20 hour) program, you will also explore a range of chair exercises and alternate approaches to assisted yoga on a chair such as one student using two chairs for exercises, two seated students doing partner stretches and how a chair can be incorporated to a restorative or traditional mat yoga class to enhance a practice. Three levels of chair yoga are explored - level 1: theraputic chair yoga for the elderly and severly physically impaired, level 2 for those who have some flexibility or range of motion yet can not get to a mat due to wrist, hip or knee injuries, and level 3: using the chair to enhance poses for the traditional yoga class. A study of chairs is also included with office chairs, folding chairs, Iyengar backless chairs, and wheelchairs all available for experimentation and demonstration. Our Yoga anatomy lecture explores the common health issues with aging bodies as well as severe complications that are common to the special population who attend chair yoga classes. Theory and practice of pranayama and meditation for handling pain is included in the material as well. The class meets Friday, July 27 from 5:00-9:00, and Sat. and Sun. 9:00-6:00.
