Seniors or elders are the fastest growing segment of the population in the USA. The skills of dealing with the physical, emotional and cognitive issues are an important part of offering yoga as a form of exercise, welless and healing to the elders within our community. For the senior population, we must understand their specific needs in relation to yoga. Seniors are not childlike nor simply inflexible adults, their needs are unique, and competency as yoga teachers in addressing their needs is ethically imperative. You will learn: active, mixed level and chair yoga; diseases and health issues of the elderly; the viniyoga, chakra and pancha maya models of aging; pranayama; and guest lecturers for nutrition, physical therapist for contra-indications and more. This training is open to certified yoga instructors, health professionals, and individuals who truly want to bring yoga and its healing to seniors. Must be familiar with yoga asana. Total certification hours 50, 40 of which are contact hours.

Martha Catz , M.S., E-RYT is the lead instructor. She has been teaching senior yoga since 2007 and received her certificate of training at Duke Integrative Medicine under Carol Krucoff and Kimberly Carson's Yoga for Seniors program in 2009. Her graduate degree is in Health Psychology and she has over 800 hours in yoga therapy training.
