In this program we encourage our participants to plunge enthusiastically into their studies and practice in order to further their development in yoga. By studiously completing all course work, participating in practice teaching sessions with peers and performing astute class observations participants gain a practical insight into the philosophy and aim of yoga as well as learn valuable teaching techniques and methodologies. Each training sessions may include any of the following: yoga philosophy, theory, postural practice, breathing practice, meditation, relaxation, discussion and teaching practicum. Main presentations and classes are taught by Maria Ortega-Murphy, with assistance from Mindful Body Staff Teachers. Special presentations and programs may be taught intermittently by our adjunct faculty to enhance and deepen the learning experience.

This program is focused on mindfulness based body awareness. By teaching our students to be attentive and aware of their bodies in the present moment we can help them to begin to recognize their habitual patterns of mind, which have developed outside of awareness over time. This allows our class participants to respond in new rather than habitual ways to their bodies and their lives.

This course includes discussion and review of a variety of Hatha Yoga class types. We will review and discuss sequencing for a typical Hatha Yoga class, a Beginner Yoga Course, a Gentle Yoga class, a Restorative Yoga class, a Yoga Sculpt class, and a Hot Yoga class. Learning a variety of class types allows our students to develop a complete repertoire of class offerings.

Participants Will Learn: • Traditional Yogic Practices: Asanas, Pranayamas, Meditation and Relaxation • Basic Yoga Philosophy, Psychology, Ayurveda and yogic health practices • Teaching methodology, techniques and ethics • Principles of anatomy and physiology related to yoga practices • The practice and teaching of fundamental yoga postures, alignment, variations, modifications and sequencing of poses • Essential Sanskrit terms and mantras commonly associated with yogic practices and yoga philosophy • A weekend trip to the Sivananda Ashram in Woodbourne, NY will allow students to fully immerse themselves in the yogic lifestyle. • Reiki 1st Degree training will be included in this course to help students experience the Prana or life force energy more completely. Note: If you have already received a Reiki I attunement. You can choose to be attuned to the next logical degree of Reiki training. Training for that degree will be made available to those persons at a highly discounted rate and scheduled on an as needed basis.

Mindful Body LLC is a Registered Yoga School with the Yoga Alliance. Upon completion of all requirements, trainees receive a Certificate which can be submitted to the Yoga Alliance for registration.
