Yin Yoga draws its foundation and philosophy from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), an ancient system that recognizes the unity and integrity of the entire human being. According to TCM, rivers of energy – called meridians – carry chi, or vital life force, to all areas of the body. A specific organ rules each meridian where it stores all the related physiological and emotional tendencies.

A disciplined practice, Yin Yoga encourages the movement of chi through the subtle energy channels of the body. Holding passive yin yoga poses for two minutes or longer is an effective way to nourish the joints and connective tissues. Because these poses are held much longer than other styles of yoga, yin yoga creates greater awareness of the physical, emotional and mental states and habits.

As a yoga instructor, you strive to teach skillfully, keeping your students safe while at the same time challenging them to explore their edges. In this 12-hour Level 2 Yin Yoga Teacher Training, you will put into practice TCM’s meridian theory as the foundation of a transformative yin yoga class. You will learn how to sequence yin yoga asanas by combining and modifying the poses for the greatest therapeutic potential.

Yin Yoga Level 2 includes many of the same subjects and topics of discussion as Level 1 training, including: - Study and application of the foundations of mindfulness meditation. Each session begins with a mindfulness meditation practice. - Understanding the three tattvas of yin yoga as a guide to your practice. - Discussions of how, when and why to practice yin yoga. - Learning skillful instruction of the primary yin yoga postures in a supervised setting. - Review of the primary yin and yang organs and their functions, health and relationships.

In addition, the following specific topics are covered in the Yin Yoga Level 2 Teacher Training: - Discussion of each meridian pairing and how the asanas promote free flowing chi energy in these meridians. - Learning an asana sequence for each meridian pairing and the purpose, benefits and applications for each. - Overview of the physical and theoretical aspects of the practice of yin yoga asanas. - Study of the comparison and similarities between the Chinese-based meridian theory and the Indian chakra system, specifically as it applies to creating an effectively sequenced yoga class. - Discussion about the complementary concepts of meridians and chakras and how they deepen the yogic experience for your students as well as for your own personal practice.

Please Note: Students do NOT have to attend Level 1 prior to Level 2. These training modules can be taken in any order.

At the completion of this workshop, you will have the tools and knowledge to confidently teach and instruct your students in the primary yin yoga postures. Class sequences taught in Level 2 target the Spleen/Stomach, Lung/Large Intestine, Heart/Small Intestine as well as the lesser meridian lines that relate to overall spinal health.

Prior to the workshop it is recommended that you read and view the following materials: - Insight Yoga book and DVD by Sarah Powers - Yin Yoga by Paul Grilley - Anatomy of Yoga DVD by Paul Grilley - Mindfulness in Plain English by Bhante Henepola Gunaratana
