|Yin Yoga for The Winter Season Sunday, February 17th 4:00 – 6:00 pm with Jessa Walters & Dan Gaustad Winter is the most yin time of year, an inward and reflective time. Nature is in its resting season: quiet, withdrawn, deep in the earth and the roots, preparing for Spring. Winter is a time to conserve energy and resources. Warmth, nutrition and rest are essential. According to Chinese Five Element Theory, the Water element is most dominant during the Winter, ruling the Bladder and Kidney organs, which deal with the body's water. Energetically, the Kidneys rule the watery realm of emotions. If Kidney chi (energy) is out of balance, we may feel particularly sensitive during the winter months.
In this Winter Yin workshop, we will explore Kidney and Bladder function both physically and emotionally, as well as the importance of appropriate Winter nutrition and self care. Following the presentation and discussion, a Winter Yin Yoga practice will provide a tangible experience of balancing and tonifying the Kidney and Bladder meridians (lines of energy) through various postures and acupressure points. Handouts will be given, with the Winter Yin practice for you to take home and do on your own and some warming winter recipes. Hot tea will be provided to keep those kidneys warm and happy!
Yin Yoga is a quiet, yielding practice which is mostly done on the floor with plenty of props to support the body. We allow muscles to soften, so that we can go deeper, targeting joints and connective tissues. Benefits of Yin Yoga include: Increased flexibility of the body's connective tissues and joints, feeling calm and balanced, lowered stress levels, greater stamina and strength, balanced hormones, deeper relaxation and improved meditation. Yin Yoga is an excellent counterpart to more active (yang) styles of yoga, such as Vinyasa. All are welcome! No experience needed.
