Exotic Yoga Retreats

This powerful 8-day immersion into mother nature and the animal kingdom is the most remote and authentic African Yoga Safari available! You will experience the wilds of Africa truly up close and personal, as we walk, yoga and meditate in Africa’s most remote and untouched wilderness area, the Luangwa Valley in Zambia. Practice yoga, meditate and slow down to merge into direct experience with animals and the rhythms of nature, revealing a world that is rarely experienced by human beings! This journey is an opportunity to experience the African wilderness with an awakened sense of humility and respect. WHY A WALKING YOGA SAFARI? Walking safaris are a direct and intensely intimate way to connect with the surrounding nature—and the nature within. There is no separation between you, nature and the animals. Your senses come alive with sound and sensation, and your body alive with health, fitness and vitality! On foot, we become aware of teachers great and small—a landscape that is seemingly devoid of large mammals comes alive with subtle, interwoven details: the life and rhythms of small creatures, plants, trees and birds—then, without warning the scene fills with great herds that fill the prairies! These moments with Africa’s large mammals will be etched into our hearts as eternal gifts to our lives, as will the more subtle experiences of nature’s true and vast wilderness. Underlying all of these gifts is our yielding to the greater wisdom of a wilderness. Eight days of spaciousness, timelessness and nature will reveal to us a guiding light through our own innate and interwoven wisdom. YOGA & MEDITATION IN THE WILD! An Exotic Yoga Retreat teacher will lead our yoga experience—guiding creative ways for our bodies, breath and spirit to connect with the nature inside and out! Our yoga studio will be earth, rocks and riverbed beneath our feet; our music will be the sounds of the savannah; our postures will reflect the animals we meet; and our meditations will be the most natural thing we’ve ever known. We will have yoga mats along, and use them at times; other times we’ll practice in shoes or bare feet. If you have never practiced yoga in the wild, you are in for the best yoga experiences of your life! OUR GUIDE, BRENT HARRIS Safari guide, Brent Harris, grew up barefoot amongst Zulu and Xhosa friends on a farm in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. It was in this rural early-childhood that he was instilled with a sense of kinship with the natural world. Brent has become a sought-after guide for agents and safari operators alike, with 60% of his clients being repeat clients! He believes that nature has a voice of its own and his style of guiding facilitates his guests’ innate understanding of their surroundings: “The wilderness is a way of being and a sense of belonging that humans have become unfamiliar with. What will surprise those who experience the wilderness in this quiet way is just how vivid our experience of the world becomes when we slow down and free up mental space by removing our accountability to words, concepts and social preoccupations. This is an experience of the wild like no other. Read more about Brent ZAMBIA: CHOICE DESTINATION FOR YOGA SAFARI The feeling here is authentic. The wilderness areas are vast and unfenced, allowing game to roam freely on their ancient migration routes. The national park boundaries typically follow rivers and streams, allowing animals to exist either side of the gazette park lines. The rural people that live on the edge of the national parks continue to live their lives in and amongst the animals, and are submersed in familiarity with animal behavior. These are your hosts in the bush. Everyone from the chefs and waiters, the housekeepers and camp hands, are at home in this area and with the ways of animals. Located in eastern Zambia, the Luangwa Valley forms the most southerly (and least discovered) arm of the famous Great Rift Valley. This friendly and stable country has remained a hidden gem – filled with wild expanses and tremendous ecological beauty. While other countries have become heavily marketed safari destinations, Zambia remains relatively unscathed by commercialism. Her wild areas are vast and unfenced, allowing game to roam freely on their ancient migration routes. Once the seasoned traveler discovers Zambia, it becomes their destination of choice for safari.
