Buddha taught that our pure nature is just like gold: No matter how much dirt or mud is caked onto a gold nugget, its essential nature remains pure and valuable. In the same way, each of us possesses an indestructible pure potential. Regardless of how much “mud” (negative states of mind or bad habits) accumulates, our essential nature remains the same.

During this half-day course with Gen Nyema, students will learn how to gain conviction in their pure potential and relate to this inner purity instead of the “mud” that covers it up. In learning to identify more and more with our pure nature, we become peaceful, positive, and focused—confident in our ability to overcome any challenge.

Gen Kelsang Nyema is an American Buddhist nun who was ordained by Geshe Kelsang in 2004. “Gen” means “teacher,” “Kelsang” means “fortunate,” and “Nyema” means “peaceful one.” Prior to teaching at Ganden Center, in South Carolina, Gen Nyema was the Education Program Coordinator at Rameshori Buddhist Center in Atlanta, GA (now Kadampa Meditation Center Georgia). In 2008, she was requested to become the Resident Teacher at Ganden Center.

Since that time, Gen Nyema has taught all around the Southeast and beyond, introducing hundreds of students to Kadampa Buddhism and meditation. She has become appreciated at Ganden Center for her warmth and sense of humor.
