Yin Yoga for the Spring Season with Jessa Walters and Dan Gaustad Sunday 4/14 4:00-6:00 pm

Spring ushers in a renewed sense of vitality, lightness of heart and enthusiasm for life and self-expression. It is a time of creativity, new beginnings and growth. We draw upon this enlivening energy of Spring to support us in embracing nutrition and self-care choices that are in harmony with the season. A light, springtime tea will be served to enjoy together as we discuss recommended seasonal foods/herbs and self-care practices based upon the wisdom of Chinese Medicine. In the Chinese system of the Five Elements, the Spring season is associated with the element of Wood, which governs the Liver and Gallbladder. In the second half of the workshop, Jessa and Dan will guide you through a Yin Yoga sequence with specific postures and acupressure points designed to balance and support the physical, mental, emotional and energetic aspects of the Liver and Gallbladder organs and their meridians. Handouts will be given, which will include the Spring Yin practice for you to take home and explore on your own.

Yin Yoga is a quiet, yielding practice which is mostly done on the floor with plenty of props to support the body. We allow muscles to soften, so that we can go deeper, targeting joints and connective tissue. Benefits of Yin Yoga include: Increased flexibility of the body's connective tissues and joints, inner calm and balance, lowered stress levels and balanced hormones, greater stamina and strength, deeper ability to relax and improved capacity for meditation. Yin Yoga is a beautiful complement to more active (yang) styles of yoga, such as Vinyasa.
