Yoga at the Village Continuing Education Workshop Series* for teachers and students interested in deepening their practice presents
Anatomy and Physiology: Why You Hurt and How to Fix It. For students, teachers, or anyone with pain. A Workshop Series with Alexandra Ellis, RYT-500
(Workshops may be taken individually or as a series and will be limited to a small number of students.) Please register early.
In this 2-part workshop series, you will discover that anatomy is not a concept that lives in a book. It is the science of the body. Learn anatomy in a practical way that is applicable to both your body as well as your students’, allowing you to see beyond the poses and recognize problems that can be easily remedied.
2 Saturdays, February 22 and March 1, 2014 1:00 - 5:00pm
Part One: February 22, 2014 – 1:00 - 5:00pm Learn: • Anatomical terms for joint movement • Essential bony landmarks for muscle attachments • Different types of muscle tissue and how to stretch them.
Part Two: March 1, 2014 – 1:00 - 5:00pm Dive deeper into: • Anatomical language • The building blocks of muscle tissue • Joint mechanics (How and Why They Move) • Different types of stretching • Why anatomy relates to your yoga practice
Understanding anatomy helps to build and cater a practice to any body. You will leave this workshop with a greater understanding of how your own body moves and functions, and how an intelligently designed movement practice can enhance all activities.
Parts one and two may be taken individually but will be beneficial together. Both sessions include a great mix of both movement and discussion.
