GENTLE AND RESTORATIVE YOGA with Sharyn Taylor Wednesday 6:15 – 7:15 p.m., May 15 – July 3 8 weeks, $140 Restorative Yoga, the yoga of non-doing, is a core practice underlying the very essence of yoga. Restorative Yoga is the practice of entering into yoga postures using an assortment of props: blocks, bolsters, blankets, straps, walls, chairs, eye pillows, and thefloor. Supported and stabilized by various props, one experiences the yoga postures as profoundly relaxing and deeply rejuvenating, invoking a natural state of healing rest, renewal and equanimity. A Gentle and Restorative Yoga class provides a completely supportive environment for total relaxation. It adapts classical yoga postures to de-emphasize physical work and emphasizes release of tension and gentle re-alignment. In general, restorative yoga poses are for those times when you feel fatigued, stressed, recovering from illness, or just need to deeply relax. If you think that you are too tired to start an exercise program, have no time or have health issues such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, cancer, or heart disease you may be pleasantly surprised by restorative yoga. Supported and passive yoga postures allow the body to naturally release, letting go of deeply held tension and stress. The result is a balanced state of being from the inside out. In order to practice restorative yoga, the student must be able to lie down on the floor and get up without assistance other than using a chair or the wall for support.
