This 8 week course focuses on learning the basic yoga principles and the practice of asana (postures) safely. It is designed to open up all the major muscles and joints of the body and to build strength, stamina, and stress reduction. We’ll create a strong foundation by working from the ground up, creating a solid understanding of the basic building blocks of yoga. We will use repetition and progressively build upon each posture and each week we will add a little challenge. Each pose builds upon the next pose and the student will feel strong, open, more flexible, and will feel energized and prepared for the following week. Students will be encouraged to do some home practice and will receive a handout with the sequence that was done in class. After completing this course you will be able to confidently and safely participate in any Level 1 or 2 class at Karuna. In addition to this, you will receive a certificate of completion and a $10 reduction off of the first class card you purchase after completing the course.

After attending this course students will understand how to:

-Create strength and stamina -Reduce stress -Relax -Perform postures with safe alignment -Execute standing poses, forward bends, basic backbends, and shoulderstand -Have a basic knowledge of the definition of yoga -Apply the philosophical aspects of yoga to your daily life -Build a home practice
