Anahata Yoga Weekend Workshop Wellington ‘Yoga; a Deeper Experience’ Flo Fenton Weekend Workshop August 31st-September 1st 2013 Anahata Yoga Studio- Doreen Doolan Mall, (under the clock, next to library) Jackson Street, Petone, Wellington

Yoga is now one of the most widely practiced physical activities worldwide, and has truly entered the mainstream. Yoga is taught not only in yoga schools and ashrams, but also in offices, gyms and health and fitness centres. It is widely promoted as a form of exercise-a way to get fitter, lose weight, lower blood pressure etc. Yet the science of yoga is many tens of thousands of years old. Classical yoga has nothing to do with fitness. The practice of yoga has for many centuries, and across the continents, provided a deeper insight into the self, ultimately leading to self-acceptance, and peace of mind. It is traditionally a tool to understand universal truths-as within, so without. Are we, by making yoga more ‘popular’ and ‘accessible’, also losing the true essence of the practice, and the unique benefits that yoga has to offer? As practitioners, how can we reconnect with the broader meaning of yoga in our daily lives? As teachers, how can we differentiate what we are offering so that our classes are not just another form of fitness routine? How can we introduce our students to a deeper experience of yoga and therefore of themselves? Over this weekend, senior yoga teacher Flo Fenton will guide us on an inspiring and blissful journey designed to awaken and balance the layers of our being, from gross to subtle. From asana with a heightened awareness of the movement of the breath in the body, to traditional hatha and tantric yoga practices such as fundamental pranayama, mudra, mantra, relaxation and meditation practices, we will explore many of the tools of yoga that are often left out of yoga classes. The aim of the weekend is to gain a deeper experience of the fabric of yoga that we can then utilize each day. When we have a balanced practice, which supports the physical body but also brings harmony to the mind, magic happens. Instead of merely 'doing yoga' we begin to 'live yoga'.
