Saturday 16th November 2013 Workshop 1: 10am - 1pm / Workshop 2: 2pm - 5pm $60 for 1 or $100 for Both 3 CPD Points per each Workshop Bookings Essential

Together we will inquire into an embodied sense of good alignment in yoga asana as a moving meditation rather than an exercise with lots of rules about ‘this bit going this way’ and ‘this bit going that way’. In both workshops we will discover that the practice isn’t always about the places in your body you’re thinking about but through personal experience we will seek to wake up nerve cells and touch sensations.

Workshop 1: FEET ON THE GROUND In the first part of our day together we will explore the relationship with earth, gravity and the ground of being through the movement pattern of Yield & Push. When the clear conduit for the movement is embodied, we feel grounded, we move in a way that ensures the health of the joints and support for the spine. “Good alignment is a dynamic organisation of the body where there is a clear conduit for the movement of force through the body and beyond the body into space.’ (Donna Farhi)

Workshop 2: REACHING FOR THE SKY Central to all yoga practice is awareness of breath. In part two of the workshop we explore techniques for a more spacious relationship with the breath. By establishing a felt sense of breath movement travelling through the body, we utilize this to inquire into the movement pattern of Reach, taking us out beyond our own kinesphere and into travel or transition through space. “There is something in nature that forms patterns. We, as part of nature, also form patterns. The mind is like the wind and the body like the sand: if you want to know how the wind is blowing, you can look at the sand” (Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, 2008, p. 1)

Sal Flynn (www.stillmotion.net.au) works with clients in a variety of circumstances and is interested in helping people develop wiser choices, take better care of themselves and live healthy more adaptive lives. Sal's professional training includes Bachelor Degree in Counselling and Human Change, Clinical Diploma Hypnotherapy, Advanced Diploma Yoga Teaching and Certificate Yoga Therapy. Sal is trained extensively in mindfulness based approaches including Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). Sal is a member of Faculty at Jansen Newman Institute, Awareness Institute and is a Senior Associate to internationally recognised Yoga teacher, Donna Farhi, and leads workshops and professional training programs in various aspects of mindfulness and body based therapies.
