Chandra Surya Shala: School for Advanced Yoga Studies Overview Our intensive program is designed for yoga practitioners who intend to begin or to enhance a professional teaching career, or for those yogis who seek to deepen and expand their own personal practice. Over a nine-month period students will be guided through a thoughtful, balanced, and systematic approach to Patañjali’s Ashtanga, or Eight-Limb, path of yoga. Seamlessly blending ancient traditions with modern perspectives, our program focuses on the benefits of the Eight-Limb Path, which encompasses the disciplines of ethical yoga practice & philosophy, asana, pranayama, and meditation, along with other subtle yoga techniques. Our rigorous physical studies will focus on an energetic vinyasa flow practice based on the core principles of traditional hatha yoga and alignment. Our philosophical studies emphasize yoga as a “tool for self-improvement” and are rooted in traditional teachings, and in the interpretations of Her Holiness, Ma Yoga Shakti Saraswati, and her primary disciple, Svami Ma Mokshapriya Shakti, Ph.D. 2014 Training Dates Our intensive program runs during the 3rd weekend of every month on Fridays from 6:30-9:30pm, Saturdays from 8:00am-6:00pm, & on Sundays: for teacher trainees from 9:00am-3:00pm; with yoga immersion students from 9:00am-12:00pm. 100% attendance is required of all teacher trainees. 2014 April 11, 12, & 13 May 16, 17, & 18 June 20, 21, & 22 July 18, 19, & 20 August 15, 16, & 17 September 19, 20, & 21 October 17, 18, & 19 November 14, 15, & 16 December- to be determined Satsang – Master Classes with Svami Ma Mokshapriya Shakti, Ph.D. Saturday, July 2014 Saturday, August 2014 Program Goals All student practitioners will be given the opportunity to: Build a strong foundation in the principles & practices of traditional yoga Cultivate an enhanced daily personal yoga practice Gain a better understanding of traditional yogic texts & the history of yoga Gain practical knowledge of body systems from both Eastern & Western perspectives Teacher trainees will be given the additional opportunity to: Prepare to safely & competently teach beginner-level hatha and vinyasa flow classes, as well as guide gentle practices in each Learn to assess & address the needs of students within the scope of yoga Learn to identify & creatively embody a personal teaching style & focus Use tools to build & utilize ethical yoga business practices
