About the Retreat
We are each a storyteller within. But what story are we telling ourselves? The Storyteller Within retreat combines spontaneous writing exercises and yoga as channels into self-exploration. Even though writing exercises are our creative tool, the retreat is as much for those simply interested in how we write our own lives as it is for those interested in writing. Only requirement: human.
In addition to yoga twice daily, we will practice varied and dynamic writing exercises across two sessions each day with the opportunity to share within the group. Most exercises will be self-exploratory, and others will be pure creative play. All will focus on releasing your inner voice and creativity. Outer Creative Expression We will play at outward creative expression with dynamic prompts that help us to animate our experiences and tap our imagination. We often channel the powers of our imagination to fear - imagining all of the things stopping, limiting, or excluding us from being creative, rather than the joy of creating! The very act of writing from a prompt and sharing within the circle defies the self-critic and fear of “I can’t” as it demonstrates “I am.” When we know we have only a short time to get something down, we are more freed from our tendency to judge our work as a reflection of our worth. The loudmouth critic inside gives another voice a chance. That voice is our creative expression, waiting to play! Inner Story Exploration With raw and spontaneous writing, we will begin to explore the inner stories that limit and shape our self-expression. What are the lenses we look through? Limiting voices and beliefs we narrate? Character patterns we repeat? Plots we hold onto? Words we hide in? Unlocking the energy trapped inside of these "creative blocks" in life is a spiritual act of liberating our innate creative nature. When we become intimate with the stories that lie inside, exploring them with honesty and compassion, they begin to lose their grip on us and we can choose to reclaim our unique story by the pen of our open heart. Our voice emerges more authentic and true, allowing a fuller expression of ourselves. This retreat is an invitation to begin the journey of the storyteller within.
