Born in Los Angeles, Louise Ellis has been a practitioner of Yoga for over 35 years and an instructor for over 30. She began her studies in 1971 in traditional Hatha Yoga, pranayama and philosophy under the guidance of the honored Swami Vishnudevanda.
Since that time, she has studied and taught in variouse yoga traditions.
In 1993, Louise went to Mysore to study with Guru Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and was certified by him to teach the Ashtanga Vinyasa system.
She maintains a dedicated daily practice and travels extensively in India to study and to teach. Her individualized approach to teaching centers on the development of pratyahara and ease in daily practice, through the use of breath, dristhi with an attitude of surrender and bhakti.

Style and minimum requirements: The Mysore style class is the most traditional teaching method in ashtanga yoga. Students practice wit meditative awareness at their own individual pace within a group setting, New poses are added gradually as ability is gained in the practice. Adjustments and help are given by the teacher and assistant to students individually. There are several segments within each sequence. Surya Namaskar A & B (sun salutations), fundamental standing poses, the particular asanas of the sequence, back bending and the finishing poses. Minimum requirements for this workshop will be knowledge of the sequence at least though the standing poses. It is not necessary to be an advanced practitioner only to have some prior knowledge and the ability to practice independently.
