Advanced Yoga Training: Level 2 Teacher Training With Julie Martin and Emil Wendel

Through a daily immersion into the depths of Asana, Philosophy, Pranayama and Meditation, Julie and Emil will guide you to unfold as a practitioner, a teacher, and a yogi. Through practice, interaction and feedback participants will learn to integrate skills and knowledge beneficial not only for teaching, but also for an advanced understanding of yoga.

This course equals a total of 26 days. Students will have the 7th and 14th off completely. Please come prepared for 8 to 9 hours of work per day. The programme contains 262 contact hours (including evening sessions) and there is a minimum of 50 hours of pre-course homework. Total hours 300 registered with Yoga Alliance. (This course will be followed by a level 3 in 2015 with Julie and Emil to complete another 100 hours advanced teacher training.)

This residential course includes accommodation and a daily yogic diet prepared by Ayurvedic chef Mani of Satsanga Retreat.


You must have completed a 200 hour level 1 teacher training and be teaching regular classes for at least 18 months. You have had a regular daily practice for at least 4-5 years. Students who have completed a Brahmani training or a training with Emil Wendel will get first consideration. Please apply for this course with a willingness to go through the processes of understanding classic Yoga history as well as being open to new ideas regarding the process of yoga.

Course Contents

From both Emil and Julie you will receive teaching and guidance that take you further in your own practice and be taught skills to share with your students. Subjects to be covered will include:

Vinyasa Flow sequencing Brahmani-style Enhancing communication skills with feedback Putting together and teaching workshops Understanding the biomechanics of our own bodies and how that affects our practice Daily Pranayama and Dhyana to enhance your home practice How to teach basic Pranayama Daily chanting of Mantras Study of ethics in Yoga Yoga as a business/career Understanding Yogic Rituals Making good sense of Yoga's history Tools to enhance your ability to be an authentic teacher and inspire others.

You will also learn to bring living philosophy into the Asana class and the importance of improvisation and creativity in teaching. Part of our curriculum will be participating in, or understanding, Puja, ritual, Seva and Bhakti in a yogic context.

About The Instructors Emil Wendel, E-RYT 500

Emil was born in Switzerland and has been living in Asia since the mid-seventies, studying Sanskrit and Indian Dharma on the Subcontinent, as well as Chinese Philosophy and Taoism in East Asia. His long residency of 25 years in India and Nepal has allowed Emil an exceptional insight in to the depth of Indian civilization and its philosophical current. He is sharing this insight in teacher training courses, retreats and workshops all around the world, serving to develop and deepen the yogic process. He has been part of the Brahmani faculty since it's inception more than 7 years ago, offering meditation modules, Mantra Vidya, Mudra sequences, Pranayama and philosophy courses. Julie Martin, E-RYT 500

Director of Brahmani Yoga in Goa, India, is an internationally recognized teacher of both Vinyasa Flow and Ashtanga Yoga. Born in Los Angeles but based in Brighton, UK for 14 years, she moved to Goa in 2003, and set up Brahmani Yoga - now one of the leading yoga centres in Asia. Julie has been teaching worldwide for over 16 years and has run highly respected training programmes at Brahmani for the last 9 years. A former professional dancer Julie imbues her classes with the grace and rhythm of dance, encouraging play and discovery in her students. Each class becomes a choreographed journey through the body and mind, fusing the qualities of traditional yoga with personal discovery and self expression.
